Being caught speeding can have a huge effect on you. Your insurance
will increase (more than average if you are a young male driver)
and you can loose your licence (depending on points you already
have). These are just some of the results of being caught speeding,
below are some more.
| 1 |
| Get a speeding ticket and you’ll
be given a £60 fine and 3 points on your licence. |
| 2 |
| 3 points on your licence could cost you
an additional £196 on your annual insurance premium. Get
6 points and you can expect to pay an extra £512. |
3 |
| If you get 6 points within the first two
years of passing your test your licence will be revoked. That
means you’ll have to get a provisional licence, don the
‘L’ plates and pass your theory & practical
tests all over again. |
4 |
| For other drivers, if you accumulate more
than 12 penalty points over a three-year period you will be
disqualified for a minimum of 6 months and may have to retake
your test. |
5 |
| Three-quarters of young males reported that
they are more likely to speed with passengers. |

7 |
| 17-21 year old drivers make up just 10%
of licence holders but are involved in 29% of all road crashes,
with speeding being one of the main factors. |
8 |
| Car drivers tend to choose their
speed because "it feels right". They justify speeding
because: it is unintentional; I was in a hurry (eg to collect
a child from school); I was forced to (by someone tailgating
me) and the limit is wrong (for this location; a similar road
elsewhere has a higher limit). |
9 |
| The most common body-language signal given
off by passengers who are unhappy with the speed the driver
is using are agitated hand movements such as the biting of nails
and tugging of seatbelts. Click here
for more signs. |
10 |
| Many passengers are nervous,
agitated or even frightened by the speed at which they are being
driven but the majority are too polite to mention it, but that
does no mean that they are happy with it. |
